One HOWO or SHACMAN tractor can serve an end-dump trailer and a hydraulic lowbed only when its complete wet kit is specified and approved for both trailers. A PTO, a tank and matching-looking couplers do not prove compatibility. Get each trailer's hydraulic requirements and a written system proposal before ordering the truck or connecting an existing trailer.
When comparing HOWO and SHACMAN tractor trucks, tell the supplier which trailers the truck will pull. A tractor quoted for container work may have no trailer hydraulic package. A tractor with a dump-trailer kit may still need a different hydraulic arrangement for a detachable lowbed. Agree the application before comparing prices.
Why a working dump-trailer kit may not suit a lowbed
Owners ask this question after buying a second trailer: the truck operates its original trailer, but the replacement trailer moves slowly or will not complete its movement. That observation does not identify the fault or justify changing a pressure setting. The trailer, truck installation and their connection need to be assessed together.
Start by separating the mechanical coupling from the hydraulic interface. A suitable fifth wheel and kingpin allow the combination to couple mechanically. They say nothing about whether the tractor can supply the oil required by the trailer's cylinders or controls. Our lowbed tractor specification guide covers the broader combination checks.
A useful comparison sheet gives each trailer its own column in the buyer's working document. Record the actual manufacturer and model, hydraulic drawing reference, required flow, working pressure, permitted return pressure, oil specification and operating sequence. Leave missing values marked unknown. Do not fill gaps using specifications from a similar trailer advertised online.
Ask for two trailer requirements, then one system proposal
Send the hydraulic installer both trailer manuals and identification photographs. Include any equipment already fitted to the tractor, with clear pump and PTO plates. Ask the installer to identify which components can remain and which need replacing, rather than quoting an unnamed wet kit.
Parker's public PTO selection overview identifies the vehicle, transmission, duty cycle, power and speed requirements as inputs to selection. That is a general selection principle. It does not confirm that a particular Parker product fits the HOWO or SHACMAN gearbox in your quotation.
The truck proposal should explain how each trailer receives the required supply and return, how the operator selects the correct application and what prevents an incorrect setting or connection. Obtain the applicable operating instructions. Do not accept instructions to adjust a relief valve by trial and error whenever the trailer changes.
For example, imagine a buyer who owns one end dump and plans to add a detachable lowbed next year. This is a hypothetical purchasing situation, not a Ruidite customer case. The buyer can request a proposal for the current trailer and a separately priced, documented provision for the future trailer. If the future trailer model is unknown, its compatibility must remain unconfirmed.
Check the circuit, not the number of visible hoses
Ask for a labelled connection diagram showing every external port and its purpose. The drawing should identify the pressure supply, return path and any other connection required by the actual equipment. Colour labels can help an operator, but they do not replace correctly specified couplings or a documented circuit.
The phrase three-line kit can describe plumbing within a dump-pump installation. It should not be interpreted automatically as three connections required at every trailer. Muncie's explanation of two-line and three-line dump systems discusses a dedicated tank return and filtration in its systems. Ask your installer to explain the actual circuit being offered instead of transferring that manufacturer's layout to another installation.
Have the installer confirm hose and coupling ratings, routing, connector identification and the oil requirements of both trailers. Include a plan for keeping disconnected connections clean. If the trailers have different oil specifications or uncertain service histories, resolve that before sharing a hydraulic supply between them.
Specify switching and installation as part of the purchase
Multi-application equipment exists, but the application list matters. Muncie's Combo Kit II is described for dump trailers together with walking-floor, live-bottom or ejector trailers. It illustrates an engineered combination package; it is not evidence that the kit fits your lowbed or Chinese tractor.
Ask the supplier to state exactly which two trailers the proposal covers. Include the reservoir location, access for service, pump installation, controls and available chassis space in the review. Check that the proposed installation preserves the clearances needed for the trailer neck, turning movement and existing truck equipment.
Request an itemised quotation. Separate the tractor, hydraulic components, fitting, commissioning and any trailer modification. For a refurbished tractor, identify reused components and their inspection scope. An apparently cheaper quote may exclude the controls or installation needed for the second application. Compare the same completed scope before choosing.
Agree acceptance evidence before shipment
Define the acceptance procedure with the installer and trailer manufacturer before paying for the package. Testing should follow their instructions and use competent personnel and suitable facilities. A video of an unloaded movement does not establish performance at the agreed working load or approval for another trailer.
If the actual trailer is unavailable in China, record that limitation. Agree what can be checked before shipment and what commissioning must happen at destination. Do not mark an untested trailer combination as fully verified simply because the pump runs.
Use this order checklist:
- Identify both trailers and obtain their hydraulic requirements.
- Record the tractor gearbox, PTO and pump identification.
- Obtain the circuit and labelled trailer-connection drawing.
- Confirm application selection, controls and operating instructions.
- Itemise supplied parts, reused parts, installation and exclusions.
- Agree acceptance evidence and destination commissioning responsibilities.
Keep the completed sheet with the purchase documents and operating manuals. Our PTO selection guide provides supporting questions about the mechanical drive. The decision here is whether the complete installation covers both named trailers, with clear evidence and instructions for changing between them.
Ruidite is a factory-direct supplier and exporter of new, remanufactured and refurbished HOWO and SHACMAN trucks. Send your enquiry with the tractor model, destination, quantity and both trailer specifications. Request a quotation that states the hydraulic scope and any compatibility checks still required before ordering.
